Quebrada de Matienzo
A bike circuit on the banks of the Cuevas River, in the heart of the Andes, near Cerro Aconcagua (6962 masl). Perfect ride for the more technical riders. The Quebrada de Matienzo is a paradise in the middle of the mountain that is home to glaciers, swamps and more than a hundred species of birds.
Departure from the hotel by the international route N° 7 towards Alta Montaña. Arrival at the town of Las Cuevas, the last Argentine town next to the international tunnel, at 3,200 meters above sea level.
After the breakfast, we got on our bicycles to reach a small bridge that crosses the Cuevas River, entering here on the path that we will travel. The landscape in the Quebrada de Matienzo is incredibly beautiful and full of fauna. It is possible to observe guanacos, condors, hares and foxes among other animals, in a framework of rivers, waterfalls and floating glaciers.
The path is always sloping; there is no end of the circuit, so we will go as far as the group can advance respecting the stipulated completion time.
This route has physical and technical difficulties since we ride at altitude and on alternative paths where we must avoid rocks, plants with thorns and be attentive to unforeseen events on the way.
At the end, we will rest and return along the same path in an exciting descent, arriving again at the town of Las Cuevas. Later we will enjoy a delicious gourmet box lunch.
Then we will return to the city of Mendoza..
