San Rafael wine tour

Getting an early start from Mendoza after picking you up from your hotel at 7:00, we head towards the San Rafael Valley (230kms), taking the scenic route via Tunuyán. San Rafael is the last oasis in Southern Mendoza, irrigated by the rivers Diamante and Atuel.

Set within the backdrop of the ice capped Andes Mountains, this town’s endless fields of vineyards, fruit orchards, and olive groves make it difficult to comprehend that it is in the middle of a desert.

Your first visit will be to Bodega Famiglia Bianchi. The winery is undoubtedly one of the most recognized labels from Mendoza around the globe. With 87 years on the wine business around the world, the Bianchi family has been a pioneer in the Argentine wine development. The company owns 350 hectares/865 acres of vineyards planted with 15 different varieties. Its storage capacity reaches the 19 million liters of wine.

Today, the wine is exported to more than 40 countries around the world. Some of the most recognizable wines are Enzo Bianchi, Particular Bianchi, Famiglia Bianchi, and recently launched, LEO, where Casa Bianchi and the Leo Messi Foundation gave birth to this wine elaborated in the land of wines and passion for football. We will enjoy a tour and tasting of Bianchi´s distinctive wines.

Next we go to visit Algodon Estates. The winery was built in 2002 under the supervision of a team that included engineers, architects and enologists. With vines dating back to the 1940’s, this two thousand acre estate was developed by Scott Mathis and his partners and is nestled in the heart of Argentina’s wine country.

The vineyards are located between two nourishing rivers sustained by the purest glacial runoff from the snowcapped Andes Mountains. As a result, the mineral rich soil has distinctive properties and considerable benefits that contribute to the ability to produce top wines.
