Mendoza Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2012/2013
IN THE PRESENCE OF MINISTER OF TOURISM OF THE NATION AND THE GOVERNOR OF MENDOZA, CONTEST PRIZES AWARDED FOR THE 2013 BEST OF WINE TOURISM
The Great Wine Capitals Awards serve as an industry benchmark for excellence in the field of wine tourism, and other award winners come from all around the world, including Rioja in Spain, Bordeaux in France, Cape Town in South Africa, Germany, Italy, the USA and Portugal.
Around 45 wineries, restaurants and tour operators from Mendoza competed for this important prize and aspire to win the major prize against the other 7 cities of the Great Wine Capitals Network.
Graced with the presence of important authorities and business people of Mendoza, for the fifth consecutive year and a record participation of the local wine sector, took place the Great Wine Capitals' Best Of Wine Tourism awards ceremony.
The jury, formed by 24 people that are a reference in the assessed fields, had a hard task choosing Mendoza's winners, who competed in up to 2 of the 7 categories proposed this year: architecture, parks and gardens; art and culture; accommodation; innovative wine tourism experiences; sustainable wine tourism practices; wine tourism restaurants and wine tourism services.
The evaluation highlighted the most original and innovative elements, while the general basis was: services quality, originality in the tourism offer, customer service and commitment in the development of wine tourism.
The Great Wine Capitals Network's mission is to encourage tourism development, academic and cultural development in each of its member cities, through joint projects. Since 1998, the network develops the Best Of Wine Tourism Competition, in a first stage selects the best examples of each of the nine capitals. The winners of the Gold distinction in each category and each city, compete for international award. This year it will appear in the General Assembly of Great Wine Capitals to be held in Firenze, Italy from November 4 to 8.

The Best of Awards (2010,2011,2012 & 2013) gave us an opportunity to reflect on our business and what we have achieved, while re-emphasising to us the importance of working closely with everyone in the industry and continually working to promote the entire region for its wines and as a destination.
